This week on The Lebenthal Report we are excited to welcome Ty Burr. Ty Burr was a film critic and pop culture columnist for The Boston Globe for two decades, from 2002 to 2021. He currently writes “Ty Burr’s Watch List” (tyburrswatchlist.substack.com), a popular e-newsletter for movie and TV recommendations—including streaming ones—and cultural commentary. He is the author of the critically acclaimed books Gods Like Us: On Movie Stardom and Modern Fame (2013) and The Best Old Movies for Families: A Guide to Watching Together (2007), and the e-book The 50 Movie Starter Kit: What to Know if You Want to Know What You’re Talking About (2013). 

During the 1980s, he programmed movies for HBO/Cinemax. As a senior writer and editor for Entertainment Weekly throughout the 1990she wrote reviews and features and oversaw the magazine’s initial coverage of, and forays into, the Internet and new media. A member of the National Society of Film Critics and the Boston Society of Film Critics, Ty teaches courses in film and criticism at Boston University and Emerson College. In 2017, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism.

He joined Schroders in 2016 and is based in New York. Jonathan was a Senior Market Strategist at Morgan Stanley from 2009 to 2016, which involved providing advice to the firm's sales force and clients on a variety of investing topics, authoring in-depth reports, and traveling frequently throughout the Americas meeting with high-net-worth individuals and middle market institutions. He was a Credit Strategist at Citigroup Smith Barney from 2000 to 2009, which involved providing commentary on the credit markets and coming up with trade ideas for the High Yield, Emerging Markets and Investment Grade corporate bond desks. He was an analyst at Emerging Markets Securities LLC from 1997 to 1999, which involved creating structured trade credit transactions.

On this week’s Lebenthal Report we welcome Scott Passeser. Scott is one of Long Island’s most respected business leaders and is deeply connected with the Long Island business community. 

Scott currently hosts Radio Jobline every Saturday afternoon from 2-3 PM and formerly hosted one of the region’s most watched business television programs, News 12 Long Island’s Jobline from 1989- 2013. Scott has been leading discussions and shaping thinking across the region for decades, while helping Long Islanders find jobs and achieve success in their careers.

Scott has been in the staffing business for over twenty five years. He also has extensive experience in the outplacement and career management fields, and is an expert on the use of social media in job hunting. Scott was so well respected in this field that he was asked by the Long Island Federation of Labor’s Consortium of Worker Education in October of 2001, to run a re-employment program for over 1,000 Long Islanders displaced by the tragic events of 9/11. Scott is a published feature writer on the subject of navigating the job market and was a career columnist for Newsday, Long Island Business News and the Wall Street Journal’s National Business Employment Weekly.
